Welcome

Thanks for visiting my music page! I play piano and guitar, and I also write and arrange tunes. I like all kinds of music, but my own stuff tends to be jazz and pop oriented, with a little bit of Electronica and New Age influences in the mix.

mp3's

Here are some sample MP3's of a few of my tunes. All songs are written and performed by me, unless otherwise indicated. Warning: these files are about 2 to 6 Megabytes in size, so they'll take a few minutes to download on most home connections. Note: All my tunes and performances are © 2004-2006 by Marcus Pendergrass. They are here as samples, for your listening pleasure only. Please do not redistrubute or otherwise use them without my permission. Thanks be unto you!

And I Love Her
Andy, this gives you some idea of the concept I have for this song.

Chill (3:36)
A song I wrote with my favorite vocalist, Laura Owens. That's the incomparable Malcolm Dendtler on drums

Won't You? (5:42)
Another new original, with lyrics by Laura Owens. That's her on vocals as well, with Malcolm Dendtler on Latin percussion.

Give All My Love To You
A little minor blues thing.

Easy To Love (Cole Porter) (3:56)
The great Cole Porter standard. This demo's for you, Andy!

Elephant Walk (3:50)
A loud rock tune of mine, with some space-age video game sounds at the end.

So Far (6:28)
A meditative tune, with guitar and synth pad accompanimant.

East Of The Sun (Brooks Bowman) (3:13)
The Brooks Bowman standard, covered by just about everyone it seems. This performance is by the Laurabella Jazz Ensemble, with me on keys.

Leigh's Lullaby (3:20)
A jazz ballad, dedicated to my wife.

Asphodel (1:57)
The asphodel is the flower of Hades, and the dead. This isn't Goth, though...

Lament (4:51)
An experiment in writing a piece entirely for strings. Lacking funds to hire an orchestra, I played the parts on my Kurzweil PC88 keyboard.

Where Or When (Richard Rogers & Lorenz Hart) (2:54)
The great Rogers & Hart standard, in an arrangement by yours truly.

Take My Hand (2:33)
More fun playing lots of different sounds on my keyboard.

New Blue (Morning Song) (4:50)
An experiment in adapting modern jazz type changes to a pop balled.

Wishing Well (1:41)
A piece in the style of piano-bar jazz. Played on my newest keyboard, a Roland Fantom X8. Nice piano sound, huh?

Tijuana Special (3:43)
Yet more fun playing lots of sounds on the keyboard
